Product Description
The addition of a lens hood can help prevent flares–those circles of light that can accompany images where a strong light source is just outside the fame. These type of lens flares occur when indirect light rays pass through the front lens elements but don’t make it all the way through to the image sensor. Opteka’s EW-60C Lens Hood is designed for the Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 I, II, III, IV, V Lens, EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 I, II, IS, USM Lens & EF 28-90mm f/4.0-5…. More >>

Looks to small to duwe anything but when I used it at the beach I had much better results then without .

(I have uploaded a picture of this lens hood on my 18-55mm Kit lens in the Customer images)
Lens hood are usually used to reduce lens flare, though I have not noticed much difference from using this with my 18-55mm kit lens. You may wonder what the point of this may be then if it does little against lens flare, but in fact, it has various other initially unrealized uses as well.
If you plan on using this with the Canon 18-55mm kit lens, you should know that it attaches directly to the miniscule focusing ring on the front of the lens; thereby increasing the area you can hold when focusing the camera manually. This is extremely helpful as without it, the focusing ring on the lens is sometimes just too small to use for an extended duration of time.
Also, it extends from the front of the lens about 3/4ths of an inch, which not only provides additional protection to the lens but also a sort of base for the camera to stand more flatly (instead of the camera leaning forward onto the lens without the hood on).
In addition, this does give your camera that added “professional” look.
The only negative aspect of this lens hood however is the quality. The plastic does feel very cheap but it is made thick enough that it doesn’t just snap from the pressure of putting it on. It does attach firmly to the lens so I would recommend it as a good alternative to Canon’s overpriced lens hood for the same models.
